 Protests flared across Pakistan on Tuesday after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was arrested as he appeared before the Islamabad High Court for one of the dozens of cases pending since he was ousted last year.

Police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse Khan supporters in Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad, while protesters blocked roads in the capital Islamabad, Peshawar, and other cities.

Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq took notice of Khan’s arrest from the premises of the high court and has summoned IG Islamabad, the secretary of interior and the additional attorney general.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has directed govt to inform the court immediately who was behind the arrest and in what case has Imran been arrested in.

“Will summon prime minister if a report was not submitted in 15 minutes,” the judge remarked.
