Chana Pulao Recipe


Rice, soaked 3 cups

Cooked chickpeas 2 cup

Medium onion, sliced 2

Cumin seeds 2 tbsp

Salt to taste

Whole cloves 8

Whole black cardamoms 3

Green cardamoms 1

Cinnamon Stick 2 piece

star anise 2

bay leaf 2

Oil or Ghee 1 cup

Water as required

Crushed fennel 1/2 tsp

Crushed coriander 1tsp

Green chilies 5

Yogurt 1/2 cup

Nutmeg mace 1tsp



  • Heat the oil in deep pan and add the sliced onions and Garam masala fry till the onions become golden .
  • Add a splash of water and all the spices along with yogurt Continue to cook this until the onions soften.
  • Now add the rice, chickpeas and 3 cups of water.
  • Cook the rice and chickpeas on high heat, Once the water has dried out, heat down to the lowest setting, add nutmeg mace and steam for 10-15 minutes.
  • Then fluff up before serving warm!
