Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and producer-director Kiran Rao have announced that they are separating after 15 years of marriage. reported by Hindustan Times.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2005 and share a son Azad, said that they had separated a while ago and are now formalising the arrangement with a divorce. They also said that they would remain co-parents to their son Azad.

In a statement, they said they would raise their son together and still work on joint projects.

In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other,” a statement issued by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao read.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao first met on the sets of the 2001 Oscar-nominated blockbuster Lagaan, where Kiran served as an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker.They got married in 2005 and welcomed their son Azad in 2011 via surrogacy.
